 This online event is focussed around activism and practice towards decolonial feminist peace. The webinar is structured around a series of questions posed to better understand why feminist scholars and activists advocate for, and support, certain boycott, divestment, and sanction strategies in order to promote feminist peace in regions under militarised occupation. Professor Pratt and Dr Abdelkarim will be talking about campaigns, and their research and expertise on Palestine and sharing examples of recent work.

Engaging the UN: What do we need in Northern Ireland?

The UN has been in the headlines a lot recently, but it can seem remote, and hard to understand. This event will look at how the UN works, and explore how engaging the UN can help improve the lives of women in Northern Ireland. It will also hear from people who have taken part in UN events, who will share their thoughts on how participation can benefit work in Northern Ireland.

We're also keen to explore what support women and organisations in Northern Ireland need to get a better understanding of the UN. Women's Platform works to act as the link between the sector and international networks, and we want to develop our capacity building and other support in line with what works best for local people and organisations.

AFC in collaboration with the Open University and Array Collective are excited and privileged to present ‘The Wholly Trinity’, a short film depicting the role that artists and creatives played in campaigning for abortion rights in Ireland, north and south.

Art has always been a powerful vehicle for social justice and the struggle for abortion rights throughout the island of Ireland, was no exception. This beautiful short film depicts the commitment, creativity, colour and emotion that artists brought to the campaigns. In their own words, it describes how artists used creativity and performance to inspire people to action, ignite potent conversations and build communities of solidarity. It explores how art can change opinions, transcend barriers, shape narratives and make history, her story and their story.

The film will be preceded by a short discussion on the making of the film by Emma Campbell and Laura O’Connor, both artists with Array Collective.

Knit Your Own Womb: Abortion Celebration Through Knitting is a gathering centered around the craft of knitting. Participants, regardless of skill level, will come together to create simple knitted stuffed uterus toys. The workshop aims to facilitate open discussions on pro-choice advocacy in an intersectional context. Through the hands-on, therapeutic experience of knitting, I hope to provide a space for meaningful conversations aimed at destigmatising abortion as a procedure and foster a sense of peace and courage in line with this years theme. Join us on 6th March 2024 at Ulster Sports Club (provisionally) for an inclusive exploration of combining creativity and advocacy.

The Community Foundation for Northern Ireland, alongside our Nothing About Us Without Us women’s panel, is hosting an event to support grassroots women from local communities to amplify their voice around their healthcare needs and join our call to action for a women’s health strategy for Northern Ireland.

The event will promote the importance of grassroots women being Visible, Vocal and Valued. It will enable women to connect across communities, share experiences of their healthcare needs and raise their voice together on shared issues.
