Do you fancy playing drums with a group of women at the international Women’s day march in Belfast this year?
As part of the International women’s day 2024 celebrations, Chidambaram samba, an all-women samba band based in Belfast, is organising a series of drumming workshops.
You will learn to play Afro-Brazilian instruments as those played at the carnival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Samba is one of the most accessible musical art forms available to all ages and is fun and easy to understand. The energy, excitement and power of samba drumming experienced in an encouraging environment results in a truly empowering experience.
You will then play, supported by Chidambaram members and other experienced drummers, at the International Women's day march in Belfast, on Saturday 9th March.
Workshops are open to all women and non-binary individuals over 12 years old (12-18 years old to be accompanied by an adult). No previous musical experience is necessary.
The first workshop will take place on Sunday 25th February 1-3 pm at Shaftesbury Community Centre. We will also be rehearsing on Thursday 29th February and Thursday 7th March 8-9:30pm, same location.
