Kid’s Corner: Feminist Tales

Welcome to the Kids' Corner where the gang at Still I Rise Storytelling will be hosting two online storytelling sessions.

First up is Feminist Tales with a selection of books to inspire kids of all ages.

The first book in the session will be about everyone’s favourite environmental hero, Nobel Peace Prize nominee Greta Thunberg. In Greta And The Giants, author Zoë Tucker introduces environmental activism to young readers through this allegorical adventure.

Next up, friend of Still I Rise, Virginia Méndez Mesón’s newest book, Mika y Lolo. Mika and Lolo are best friends, and best friends go on adventures! However, Mika and Lolo have discovered that on their adventures some things that are OK for boys to do, aren’t OK for girls – and visa versa. Join Mika and Lolo as they unpack everyday gender stereotypes with help from Mika’s Dad. For parents, this is a great handbook for opening conversation about gender. A bilingual delight in both Spanish and English.

The third and last book of this session is a classic from Little People Big Dreams. We’ll meet and follow feminist hero, Maya Angelou, from her early traumatic childhood to her time as a singer, actor, civil rights campaigner and, eventually, one of America’s most beloved writers.

Join us for some live Zoom storytelling with Still I Rise, all ages (even grown-ups!) welcome.
