Abandoned is the first-ever film to tell the poignant and moving stories of women who have died or suffered terribly after being denied a legal abortion on grounds of what is commonly termed, “conscientious objection”. It is a groundbreaking piece that gives women a voice and the space to tell their stories publicly. The film exposes the injustice of allowing doctors to refuse care to women and pregnant people with an unwanted pregnancy. It creates a real risk of death and suffering when doctors base their decisions on personal beliefs, misleadingly called “conscience”. The film also explores the origin of “conscientious objection” in health care and interviews experts on the issue.
Alliance for Choice are delighted to host the Belfast premiere of Abandoned and also invites you to the pre-show panel discussion which examines the issue of “conscientious objection”. Speakers are Dr Leanne Morgan from Doctors for Choice NI, Naomi Connor from Alliance for Choice and Arlene McClaren from Common Youth.
